My husband's company gave him two tickets to Game 5 of the World Series, which was played last night in Philadelphia.
I like the Phillies, but I liked the idea of having $5,000 in my pocket a whole lot more. That is how much our seats were going for on the Black Market.
"Selling the tickets is tacky," my husband reminded me. "Plus, this will be an experience that you will remember for the rest of your life."
I told him that a trip to Hawaii would be equally memorable, and could be experienced without long underwear and ear muffs.
After I finished mourning the loss of what might have been, I had a great time. My family loves sports and the experience of being at a World Series game was nothing short of incredible. It was way better, in fact, than paying off our student loans or a week-long vacation to a tropical island in the dead of winter. Way.
Paying off student loans before age 50 is highly overrated anyway. :-)

Going to a warm sunny tropical vacation is to way overrated as well...glad you enjoyed the game!
ReplyDeleteStudent loans won't go away. They are just like taxes you have to pay them and it stinks (sometimes) So glad the Phillies won last night although a vacation would be nice!
ReplyDeleteAt least they won.
ReplyDeleteHusbands have such different priorities..
ReplyDeleteIs that just a TOUCH of sarcasm? :)
ReplyDeleteChalk it up to life experience, I guess.
i would want 5k. at least you have a nice memory. take care. go yankees!
ReplyDeleteHawaii or World Series? Fruity umbrella drinks or beer? Fresh grilled seafood with macadamia nuts or sausage sandwich?
ReplyDeleteUm... lucky you?
Someone in Utah is jealous. I'm hoping for a game 7. Go Phils!
ReplyDeleteThat is very cool!
ReplyDeleteI still vote for Hawaii, although I am sure you had a good time.
ReplyDeleteI would have gone to the game. We got free tickets to the Patriots game in the snow a couple weeks ago and I loved it. GO RED SOX!
ReplyDeleteI am so ok with tacky when it come to cold hard cash
ReplyDeleteThat game was a nail-biter! How awesome that you were there!!!
ReplyDeleteWho needs warm sunny beaches when you can sit on a cold metal chair? Glad you had fun.
ReplyDeleteSometimes the "simpler" things in life are the way to go! Glad you did enjoy yourself. Although, I do agree, those Hawaiian beaches are enticing!
ReplyDeleteYou are such a good sport.
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad my husband hates sports (lacrosse and soccer aside). We'd have sold the tickets and enjoyed Christmas in Ireland. Or put it towards a down payment on a car.
ReplyDeleteYou are a good sport (and a lucky one too)! I would have loved to sell them as well to sneak off somewhere exciting!
ReplyDeleteI agree with the World Series is much more important and fun then any other option!
ReplyDeleteI am a huge Indians fan and because of that I am cheering for the Phillies!
You can always go to Hawaii but it may be another 20 years before the home team goes to the series.
ReplyDeleteI am in love with your blog- I think you attract a very diverse crowd... Love it!!!
ReplyDeleteI'd really appreciate any visitors willing to take a look at my blog, please do so! I too blog about my real-life adventures... And it's a crazy road too!

Booo Phillies! Go Dodgers! I don't like the Yankees but I hope they win!
ReplyDeleteYears ago, I turned down box seats for the "Subway Series" games. Why?!? Not interested in baseball! But, in retrospect, I should have taken them.
ReplyDeleteThere's nothing like being with a great crowd- especially on a winning night!
No regrets ever! One of a kind experience = priceless.
oh MAN that would have been awesome if you sold your tickets. Oh well I bet the game was not too bad.
ReplyDeleteOUCH, I am feeling your pain right now. WAY.
ReplyDeleteLIES! A vacation would be better! lol. But in my defense, Im not into sports.
ReplyDeleteyeah sitting on a cold hard bench freezing to death watching a bunch of guys run around is Waaaaay better than getting out of debut or having a tropical vacation! boys are SOOOOO much smarter.
ReplyDeleteI agree 100% with both of you, a vacate would have been WAY better, but you can't sell them and expect to show your face around work again. ;(
