Mama Bird

This afternoon, I took my daughter to the pediatrician for a check-up. While I was checking in, Cameron started crying. In an attempt to pacify the seventeen-month-old long enough for the receptionist to photocopy my insurance card, I tossed the toddler's sippy cup to my six-year-old twin sons.

"Give the baby a drink please," I told them.

I should have been more specific.

When I turned around, all three of my sons were at the drinking fountain. Cortlen and Kellen were taking turns filling their own mouths full of water...and then spitting the liquid into Cameron's.

I wanted to die.

One of the other mothers in the waiting room was so kind as to point out that the scene reminded her of a mother bird feeding her young.

In a demented sort of way, I guess she's right.

  1. LOL - at least they weren't trying to recreate a mother eating her young ;)

  2. Just be glad it was WATER and not hot dogs and chips or something they were regurgitating into his mouth!!

What did Cameron think of all this?

Sooo gross. Your kids are creative. Sign of intelligence, I say. They want to break beyond the borders and think outside the box! Can't blame them for that. lol

  4. Aww, my first reaction was, that is too cute. But then I really thought about it and boys will be boys will be boys and at least that's ALL they were putting in their little brother's mouth. Never know what boys will find and force upon their unknowing younger siblings. LOL

  11. Nothing like some glaring evidence to reveal the reason you're at the pediatrician so much.

  21. When I was about 8 years old, my mother caught me spitting green Kool-Aid through the screen at my neighbor, Sharona. I guess it's normal?

On Thursday, another mom informed me that my oldest daughter (3) had just eaten a french fry off of the floor at Wal-mart. I asked her to not tell me next time because I would have never known...

  22. Awesome. I found your blog through a friend's blog (and someone who commented there...yeah, convoluted, but here I am), and you are my kind of mom. My kids have engaged in synchronized nose picking before. Never at the doctor's office, but hey, they can dream.

  27. I so hope you totally don't care what people think. You know kids will be kids and all us moms know that. I know u want to hide behind the diaper bag, but hey, you'll laugh at this someday as much as we all do! We love you and THANK YOU for the great laughs! I'm glad all us moms are in this grand experience together. Anyone who makes snide remarks is missing the boat on childhood fun and enjoying the ride of having kids!

  29. I'm not laughing AT you, I'm laughing WITH you. Mainly I'm laughing because I'm so happy that it was happening to someone else for a change. I once got the double-handed breast honk by my 3 year old son while I was having a very serious conversation with his Dr.
    Nice.
