* Lice
* A U.S. Airlines telephone operator
* Inspector Hector Plaque Detector

* A three-legged dog not on a leash
* Two hard to open Taco Bell sauce packets

I had run-ins with all of the above today.

"My teacher says that we have to wash everything in our whole house!" my daughter told me as she handed me a decontamination checklist.

Nothing excites me more than the task that awaits.

  2. oh the inspector how I hate you....here in Canada known as Agent Cool Blue....same splatter pattern I can tell you that...so sorry for a weekend of delousing!

  3. I'm sorry- I feel for you. Lice is a big enough reason to keep all children- even the females- shaved bald. Perhaps you should hire a delouser. Do they have those in your neck of the woods? I think it would almost be worth it.

  5. I can so feel your pain...we had our own run in with those little suckers. Hate them, loathe them. There is something that Walgreens sells called Nix (I think) that allegedly kills the lice and eggs. Good luck to you!!

  6. I have heard covering her hair in Mayo and then plastic wrap and leaving in on for a while will kill the lice and moisturize the hair at the same time.
    p.s. I LOVE your blog!!! Thanks for all the good laughs

  9. Oh, fun for you! I'm so sorry. You should wash her backpack too. I remember my sister having lice years ago, and it kept coming back. After my mom threw away her backpack, they were finally gone. Good luck!

  10. Dear God, every Mama's nightmare. Mine happened last year...my son had forgotten his bike helmet for the inline skating class at school...he used one of their's, big mistake! Upon examination of his teen brother's head, I found them on him too. While I was 'suffocating' the little beastie's with a special treatment, hubby was washing all towels, bed sheets, pillowcases, etc, etc, vacuuming the mattresses and carpet, tossing the pillows in the dryer (high heat, it will kill them)....then I spent about four hours picking EVERY.SINGLE. NIT. out of both their heads....worth it to take the time to get every single one, as we never had anything 'come back'. So sorry to hear this has happened in your household!

  11. You just made my entire scalp start crawling. Argh! We dealt with lice when our oldest was in Kindergarten. Afterward we read that lice prefer clean hair to dirty hair. Something about it being easier to grasp or something. We've been putting styling gel in the kids' hair ever since. I don't know if that is really accurate but we've never dealt with lice since. lol

    Good luck!

  15. So Sorry! We had more than enough of this one school year. Put drops of tea tree oil in the kids regular shampoo and it will help keep them away in the future. That's the only thing that worked for us. We still put tea tree in the shampoo.

  16. On no! So sorry. Hope you are able to get rid of the lice quickly.

  17. The best combs to use are the Rid double-combing system--two metal combs with angled plastic handles so you can get right up to her head. We spent 6 hours doing my daughter's long, thick hair three weeks ago, and re-combed every day for a week (much shorter after the first time). No OTC treatment will get everything, combing is the only thing that works. Good luck to you!

  18. Ooooh, The lice thing is a drag. Though in the summer it is an excellent excuse for a really short haircut! And it is a great way to get rid of alot of stuffed aniamals! Webkins be gone!!!! Sorry I know how painful it is.

  19. I am so sorry. Truley. The smell of Nix reminds me of my childhood...yes that's how many times I had lice growing up. I'm holding my breath that karma doesn't come around to get me with my daughter...
    I think I'll hire people to wash everything for me...that's how much I don't think I could handle it.
    Good luck. I hope it doesn't get to anyone else.

  20. Lice is horrible! I work in a daycare and got it from one of the kids. Make sure to treat the car seats too!

  21. Oh...I feel for you! Been there -TWICE in one year! I still have nightmares, seriously.
    Get a bunch of movies from Netflix, a special nit comb, and camp out in front of the t.v. at least once daily for the next week or two.
    I tell you, I still know each lump and mole on each of my 3 childrens' heads.
    So sorry!

  28. We did lice two years ago. The mayo/saran wrap ended up working after 2 failed shampoo attempts (the school nurse didn't like it, but let her back in school anyway). Then keep long hair pulled back in a pony covered in Aqua Net to send a girl back to school for the rest of the year. It got us through the rest of 3rd grade with no more occurances....

  29. Wow..That is no good. I have heard of using listerine in your hair. Also, heard of mayonaise. Cleaning the whole house sucks. New pillows/linen. Lots of work. :)

  32. use Paul Mitchell Tea Tree shampoo and conditioner. The lice and their eggs will die. If you continue to use it once or twice a week you wont get head lice again. I have 5 girls and one boy and they all had lice at the same time. I tried EVERYTHING to get rid of it! Paul Mitchell tea tree saved my life!

  36. Oh, that is bummer!!! We had to do that when our newly adopted daughter had scabies. (Imagine our dismay having to tell all of the relatives and friends who held her that they needed to douse themselves in medicine!)
    Hope things are better for you by now.

  43. just survived a month (Feb) of head lice i thought i was never going to get rid of- 5 kids- long hair on two of them. i was horrified. i washed and vacuumed everyday for a month and they were still here- got on the internet and learned that Listerine and vinegar did the trick- guess what- we are now lice free (after poisoning ourselves three times) I'm crossing my fingers (it's been a month and i think it's over. I've also put tree tea oil in our shampoo. I can't sign my name to this because this whole lice thing was very upsetting to me!
