Public Service Announcement: Chicken Pox Outbreak!!!

Warning! A horrible vaccine-resistant strain of Chicken Pox has struck our household. Yours might be next.

All of my seven-year-old daughter's Barbie dolls are afflicted, except the one with leprosy who, having survived the loss of a leg and arm, presumably is immune to all other diseases.

"How would you feel if I put marker all over your bodies?" I asked the prime suspects. Kellen fell on the ground in a fit of laughter. Cortlen took off his shirt and handed me a marker.

Unwittingly, I had just stumbled upon every six-year-old boy's dream.

  2. On Saturday I took my 3-year-old daughter shopping at an Outlet Mall. We saw a young woman with black and white striped hair who was wearing a spaghetti strap tank top (hang with me, this sets the stage). Across her upper body she was tattooed with a lot of writing (which I didn't bother to read). My daughter said, "Oh, NO! That lady got marker ALL OVER her!!" Maybe she had been visiting you?

  4. This still doesn't explain the inexplicable reason for Barbie's clothes to never be upon her body.

  5. One way to cheer Barbie up when she recovers is to pierce her ears. All of my Barbies had pierced ears. It's best if you have straight pins with the little balls on the end; and you have to angle them just right so they don't come out the other side of Barbie's head. If you'd like me to contact your daughter directly to give her piercing instructions, I'd be glad to do that.

Hope your boys "heal" quicly as well but no piercings for them....

  7. Oh, and that's almost as good as my older brother taking a the tube of the vacuum to my sister's and my barbie's hair. We could NEVER get it back down.

  8. You don't yet have "punk rock" Barbies with multicolored mohawks (multicolored and sticking straight up through the beauty of kids' nail polish...)

I expect the boys to step it up.

  9. Oh yes, you can help Barbie feel better soon. If you don't want to pierce her ears, you can always give her a hair cut. That was my secret trick. Strange thing is, her hair never grew back. I wonder if she was vitamin deficient?

  10. Yes, my 5 year old son frequently decorates himself with multi-colored spots in hopes of tricking someone into thinking he's sick.

  11. Careful what you threaten! I have made some idle threats before that involved pudding and hair. :)

  12. My daughter just decorated herself with blue marker today.

  13. Blonde hair, tiny waist, big boobs, I mean -- I think Barbie kind of had it coming.

  14. It's spreading down the east coast, apparently. My youngest and my nephew both came downstairs yesterday afternoon with smatterings of burgundy marker 'freckles'.

  15. Can't quite copy the picture of this in the comment section--but my 14 year-old daughter showed up for Ken and Barbie day during spirit week as "Broken Barbie"--quite a bit of magic marker, mismatched 4" heels and outfit, and hair ratted up. I'm sure the boys can do better than just polka-dots!

  16. You should see my daughter's Barbies. In fact, every toy they own is solidly colored by crayon, marker, lipstick, or Sharpie.

Chicken pox makes the body weaker and reduces human immune systems. This may be a cause of hair loss diseases in children. So we should be very attentive to our children to minimize the harmful effects of chicken pox.
