ReplyDeleteOh my gosh. My daughter has one of the cupcake makers that costs about $7 for refills of the nasty cake mix and frosting. I keep praying it breaks or she'll lose a piece....
ReplyDeleteWe have the cupcake maker. She asks to make cupcakes quite often, but I can't bare the idea of having to choke down on of those horrible things. Needless to say, after almost a year, it is still in perfect condition and may actually last the test of time and be passed to HER daughter!

ReplyDeleteNO WAY!!!! That is theee cutest thing ever. I can't wait until my girls are old enough for easy bake oven and things like it. I'm not gonna lie. I like those gross easy bake oven cakes. I really, really do.

ReplyDeleteMy mother bought my daughter an easy bake oven... many times I entertain the idea of telling my mom that she should have this oven stored over there and they can do the baking together.

ReplyDeletei remember the christmas my daughter got an easy bake oven. i seriously don't remember what happened to it. she looked adorable frosting the little cake. she put little candy sprinkles on it and grudgingly shared a piece of her cake with her brother. it could be we just never bought any of the refills and it just gathered dust until we gave it away. i have no idea what became of it.
but thanks for the memory!
Candy maker? Really? As if Americans aren't fat enough, we're now making things to teach children early on how to make unhealthy crap.

ReplyDeleteWow. Wow. My son is a chef. He has a kitchen, all the spoons, pots, etc, I've been thinking of getting an easy bake over, but I didn't know . . . I had no idea . . .
ReplyDeleteWell, whatever you do, don't replace it with a rock tumbler. I thought that would be cool for my boys. NOT. You have to leave it on for like 6 weeks just to get the rocks smooth. It sounds like a cement truck going 24-7. I started it and promptly repackaged everything back up and took it right back to the store to get my money back.

ReplyDeleteAlso, the word I have to type in is "monstify." That sounds like a great word to use in a parenting post somehow.
We once got our nephews fireman helmets with real sirens on top. Does that make us bad people?
ReplyDeleteWe got an Easy Bake Oven for Christmas 2009--my daughter pulled it out at Christmas 2010 and asked if the mixes were still good from a year ago--cuz we NEVER used them when she got it the first Christmas. UGGGG... (omg--rock tumblers should come with a warning for parents, "EXTREMELY LOUD AND ANNOYING."
ReplyDeleteI hate the cupcake maker so much I devoted two entire posts and a lot of swears to it. I have hearby vowed to never allow another food-maker-toy into my house and have instructed my daughter that yes she may buy one with her own money but she'll have to find someone to drive it to the storage facility she's rented with her own money, as well, because that person is not me. So if your candy maker falls into the "stand the test of time" category, then you are a stronger person than I.
ReplyDeleteAs soon as we returned home from Maine for Christmas, my husband and I decided to purge a couple of the gifts given from well-meaning family members--mostly over the age of 60. The first thing to be tossed was a dolly with a LIGHT UP FACE (yeah, I know) that played a midi-tune when you pressed it's belly. My daughter was intrigued by it enough to constantly want it pressed, but when its face was aglow she wouldn't even hold it.

We had one of those! It glows like the bowels of hell! Got it from the grandma. Why to grandmas insist on gifts of crud like that? I let my daughter make the candy then threw the machine away. What a waste. Why not get a nice new box of crayons or something? Guess what grandma gave her this year? A barbie with a spray-tan-like chamber that sprays...GLITTER!!!

ReplyDeleteMy daughter received the cupcake maker last Christmas. What a pile of crap! We probably use it twice a year if we're lucky...too messy and the stuff is just awful :)
ReplyDeleteThere are so many little gadgets and plastic thingies that come into the house like that..and the kids love them! (I secretly put them straight in recycling.) They come especially through goody bags...is there a special landfill universe for them?
ReplyDeleteI am so thankful that this came out after my girls were older, but we did do the whole easy bake oven. We've had three in our lifetime. They all managed to make their way to goodwill. They are too messy and time consuming. I love teaching my daughters to cook for real and they enjoy it much better. Plus, daddy likes eating "real" food rather than the "cheesy bake oven".

ReplyDeleteI almost bought my cousin one of the "new" easy bake ovens that is like a microwave, and then i realized that my cousin's parents probably already have a microwave... waste of money! buy the betty crocker microwaveable desserts that use like 2 tblspns of water and 60 seconds in the microwave and you've got something WAY better than an easy bake oven cake!!
