This picture does not do my so-called 'hack job' justice. My little guy is pretty cute but his hair cut is pretty awful.Clearly I got a little too aggressive with the hair clippers yesterday. In my defense, my client is two.
"That's why I like to cut his hair," my husband said when he saw my masterpiece. What my husband can't wrap his mind around is impulsiveness. I have that problem in abundance.
"His hair looks hideous," he said mournfully.
"It will grow back," I reminded him.
I decided not to show my husband my brand new do-it-yourself hair coloring kit. I hid it in the bathroom cabinet. The woman who sold it to me told me that it was basically foolproof.
Cameron was wearing a hat while we were in the store.
lol that is almost as good as some of our attempts at cutting sam's hair!

I tried that too when my oldest was two. His bangs were cut so high they almost met the top of his forhead. I still cringe when I see those pictures. My mother in law was pretty sure I was somehow abusing my son at the time, after seeing his hair. Good thing she didn't turn me into CPS. The good thing is it always grows back.

ReplyDeleteHey, by the time he is 16 you will have this new career of hair stylist mastered. At least that's how it worked for me.

My husband's responses used to be similar then I quit working and we became poor. :) Now I cut his hair too. bwahaha

ReplyDeletethose of us who consider ourselves "mean mommies" have that impulsive gene hard wired into our DNA. With that comes the urge to cut our children's hair. No matter how many times I've made minor errors here or there, each time it grows too long I'm convinced in the moment that this time I'll be able to do it better! maybe?

At that age you can just tell everyone they cut it themselves and this was your attempt to salvage the situation.
ReplyDeletei was told that if you out a guard on the clippers you can't mess it up. Well, I can. I want a doctor or a lawyer but if I can't have that maybe a hairdresser or a really good mechanic.
ReplyDeleteIt could have been worse...you could have cut his ear...do you know how much ears bleed? I told him not to move...did he listen? NO! He will never let me forget it...he was about 2 1/2 or 3...he might need therapy later on in life.

ReplyDeleteI did the same thing to my 4 yr old last night!!! My husband freaked out but didn't feel like taking him out to get it evened out. A little bit of mousse can help a lot while it grows back...

ReplyDeleteOnce when I cut my husband's hair I forgot to put the guard on the clippers and made two swipes at his hair before I realized it. He had tiger stripes on one side of his head for a few weeks. Luckily my husband is very forgiving.
ReplyDeleteI can't believe no one has told you yet what a cute photo that is. Who cares about the hair (I say as my own 2 year old runs around with an uneven cut of his own)? The way he's gripping that little car while sleeping is so precious you don't even notice.

Oh my gosh! I'm the exact same way. I see my son have hair over his ears (I can't stand it!!) and I pull out the scissors, because lets face it, my husband will take to long to get it done. So then I give my little guys a hack job (18 months old won't sit still)and my husband comes home confused at why I did it, but then he fixes it. So it gets done THAT day!! And besides, it will grow back. Guess what I'm going to be doing today!!!

ReplyDeleteI can cut my husband's hair just fine, but trying to get my two year old to sit still is impossible. Then I have to drive two hours to hear my dad (who's a barber) plead with me to never pick up scissors again as he fixes the poor kids botched up head.

ReplyDeleteMy mom started making me cut my younger siblings hair. Not because I ever went to Cosmetology School, but because she had heard enough flak over the years regarding her haircuts on us older kids, so she quit, and ordered me the new hairstylist.
ReplyDeleteNow that I live 3,000 miles away, my dad just shaves my brother's head. Thankfully we have a family friend that cut my sister's hair now!
This is why I just buzz-cut my boys hair (13 months & 3). I do my husbands hair and it goes fine, cut my daughters hair (4) and the only time she has had a bad haircut is when she did it herself, but those boys man alive. If they ever want there hair to be more than a buzz then they'll have to learn to sit still!

ReplyDeleteThat's why my husband's dad, who is an amateur dog groomer cuts my two year old's hair. Plus they have a bigger TV to keep him occupied. That, and popsicles. And suckers. And gummy treats....
