Easter is always a magical holiday. This year it was made even more special by the loud scream that startled me and my husband out of bed at 5:45 am.
"It's all gone!" my daughter cried as she flung herself onto our bed.
"He ate everything!" one of my older sons wailed. He held up an Easter basket that was largely empty.
These statements proved to be an exaggeration. While everyone else in the house was sleeping, my toddler hadn't eaten everything in everyone's Easter baskets. He had, however, taken at least one bite out of most things.
When we found him, the perpetrator was sitting in the middle of the family room floor...in the dark. His mouth was full of chocolate (and foil wrappers). His siblings' Easter baskets were all around him. Needless to say, he was very happy.
When my husband turned the lights on, Kellen collapsed on the floor in a heap. "Arghhhhhhhh!" he cried.
"What's up?" I asked. You would have thought that it was the Apocalypse.
That's when I saw the white chocolate bunny protruding from his basket.
It had been decapitated.
Love this, love that kid. If we let the 2yo out of his crib and into a big boy bed, this would be the scene every morning. Easter baskets, Christmas stockings, run-of-the-mill cereal bowls.

ReplyDeleteWe had the same scene one year, except the perp was the family dog. And then we had an even bigger surprise the next morning, when all that chocolate found it's way OUT of the dog.

My comment would have to be the same as Nicole's!! My 2 yo loves food and has been known to snitch sweets at any time possible!! I feel for your other kids!

ReplyDeleteWe didn't go trick-or-treating this last Halloween, it being Sunday and all. So I bought myself a bag of candy.
ReplyDeleteWe left for my cousins' one time, came home and discovered that the dog had let himself in, ate the whole bag of candy that was upstairs on my dresser, and then went back outside and shut the door behind him.
Sheesh.

That happened at our house too, except it wasn't the two-year-old and it wasn't the kids' baskets. My 14-year-old dumped all the adult candy together and my sweetie caught me eating all the little snickers bars...I guess I got the last laugh!

Out of my 7 grandchildren, 4 of them were born the same year. So last year we had 4 - 2 year olds for our Easter. Chaos & Crying was the best I can say. This year it was so much better.

And this is why baby gates were invented. If they are out of a crib at least they are stuck in their room until mom and dad is awake to let them out. No wandering the house getting into trouble and possible danger from being unsupervised.
ReplyDeleteDaughter always woke us up as soon as she was up so we could let her out of her room. Even now that she has outgrown the need for a gate, she still comes in our room first so we know she's awake and can be supervised. She is only three after all.

ReplyDeleteOY! I have a friend who thought it would be fun to put her kids baskets IN their rooms...
ReplyDeleteBut, at 3:00 am, she and her hubby awoke to some giggles and laughter...and 3 kids FULL of every candy that had been put into their baskets!! Not one candy left...needless to say, they did not fall back to sleep for a couple hours :P
This year the Easter bunny went cheap at our house - one dollar box of candy for each kid - a kite and a set of jacks...all on clearance due to the fact that the Easter Bunny was ridiculously reluctant to bring anything at all....course come Monday morning the big Easter package came from Grandma and made the world right.

I was chuckling through the entire post... and then I got to the decapitated bunny and I had to run to the bathroom before I wet my pants!! Too funny! Everytime my youngest (and only boy) does something evil and baby brother like to my older 2 I just remind them of all the times they've done something to him - that payback is a real b*&@h!!

ReplyDeletemy 8 yr old did this to me in March - got up early one Sunday and swiped a bit of frosting off 2 dozen cupcakes that were destined for the church coffee hour....
I made him eat them all as punishment, no other food until he ate them all.

ReplyDeleteThat's hilarious! This Easter my daughter dropped some of her candy in the "time out" spot, and we didn't know it. When my son inevitably got put in time out he was strangely quiet, and uncharacteristically still. When we went to investigate we found him covered in chocolate. He kept asking to go to the wall after that...
