Caramels

Tim's parents were in town this weekend. Last night, Tim's mom taught me how to make her famous caramels. They are super easy and only take 2 hours (of non-stop stirring) to make. Clean-up is a breeze as well. I'm definitely going to be making them a lot this holiday season.

Oh, I am so sorry. What a mess!! That is how I feel this Christmas with a crying almost 2 year old who is cutting his molars and children who think it is there moms job to do their homework.

Do you remember the Angus family? She made these incredible caramels every year as Christmas treats. I found a quicker recipe with less stirring and am pretty satisfied with them. who on earth has 2 hours to stir???

You should be lucky they worked! I tried for years to make caramels on my smooth-top range. I finally called the manufacturer and complained that my elements didn't get hot enough for candy making. He said,"I know, the temp is limited to keep the top from cracking." Needless to say, my new house has a gas range!

I make carmels at the store. Yep...and they even come in a nice cellophane wrapper.

LOL. Nice. I love trying to clean hard crusties on the stove top.

Oh, man, that's funny. Nothing a blow torch can't fix.

Might be time to introduce her to your litter box cake. Much simpler and far more practical.

There's probably a way to jazz it up with some sort of Christmas theme...maybe a cat-sized Santa hat or a few extra red and green tootsie rolls.

only 2 hours of stirring? Hey... instead of those 'pricey teacher gifts' this year.. just give them the caramel recipe! :)

It all comes down to: a) the recipe or b) who you're cooking with... because my caramels didn't turn out that way. LOL

Haha, how sweet of her to teach you such an easy thing!

Just think, someday you can pass this blessed recipe on to your children and their spouses.

Ouch ouch ouch!

Maybe she did that on purpose. She is trying to sabotage your recipe to keep hers famous.

Ha! These are the very reasons why I have yet to make mine. It scares me.

I'm imagining, looking at that sparkling clean stove-top, that your teeth required a pick-axe to get clean. ;)

My mom-in-law taught me how to make them a few years back. And the only reason I still make them annually? I have a gas range... not ceramic.

(keep trying. the deliciousness is worth it.)
