The Shark Halloween Costume

Isn't this costume adorable?

My almost three year-old doesn't think so. In fact, he isn't really into clothes at all these days. This morning, I gave up and drove him to preschool wearing underpants and nothing else.

"We're going to do this," I told him when we got to the parking lot. I held up a pair of shorts and a t-shirt. "Either nicely or meanly. You pick."

He chose meanly.

But back to the Old Navy shark costume.

I've always wanted one of my children to dress up like a predator for Halloween. Camber was a bumble bee last year and once Kellen was a koala. Hardly menacing by anyone's standards.

This year, I am determined to do better.

"Oh look!" I said, gesturing to the costume. "Let's try this on."

Cameron responded by diving under a rack of clothes. Convinced that he would change his mind about the costume once he was actually wearing it, I pulled a good mother and shoved him into it.

"I love it!" I cried as a sales clerk walked by. "Is he okay?" she asked as she pointed to my son, who was foaming at the mouth.

"He's great," I assured her.

I had every intention of taking a picture of my son in the costume with my phone and sending it to my husband, but I barely had time to inhale before my son ripped off the costume and threw it across the store.

The things we do for our children :)

Back at home, I sang the praises of Halloween costumes. "They're awesome," I told him. "You're totally going to want one."

I said this while he was sitting commando on my sofa.

"You've got bigger fish to fry than Halloween costumes," my husband observed when he came home from work.

By this point, Cameron was helping me make dinner--totally nude, except for a pair of socks.

I sometimes question the fact that everyone thinks that my almost 4 year old is gifted, socially ahead, etc. I have always felt that there is something wrong when I have to ask her " c before we leave are you forgetting something" oh Mommy, my shoes " no...." your clothes??
She has been content strutting around naked since she could walk. Of course it lead to her potty training at 18 months but it just boggles my mind. I love when she complains that she is cold and I give the obvious solution. She looks at me like I am nuts and grabs a blanket.
Now my 9 month old makes the escape when I change her diaper. She loves to be naked too. No freaking way I am having another streaker. I slap that diaper on there fast and she is not going naked like big sis.

This is my just-3 year-old about a year ago.. Clothes do not stay on long.
Someone gave us some dress up clothes so now it's either:
1. Nekked, 2. Princess, 3. Ballerina, or 4. Sister's clothes
My chances have improved greatly of her being decently clothed; on the other hand, I wash an obscene amount of laundry now.

LOL! I am dying, sitting here reading this! I have 3 boys: 11, 5 & 3. I once drove the oldest to school butt naked in the winter because he refused to get dressed. That was the last time it happened. The two younger ones have had a lot of naked moments, especially the youngest (currently 3) who seems to think that going commando or dropping his pants to pee in the front yard are completely normal behaviors despite my ever growing frustration that he won't cover himself. When the middle one was 3, he wanted to be naked all the time at home and then refused to wear a Halloween costume and went trick or treating in a Halloween themed t-shirt and told the people at every door that he was a tiger. Oh these munchkins! Love your blog!

Try this one: No shark costume, no Halloween candy. Would that threat have any bearing?

My 17-year-old son is autistic and when he was little he HATED clothes. He would head outside in a diaper and nothing else in the middle of Utah winters. When he started preschool, we worried every day that he would remove his clothes at school. I'm happy to say that never happened. And eventually he started liking them...I think he was six or seven...but I think every child gets to that point eventually.

My almost 3yo daughter likes going nude also. She runs around yelling,"I'm Nakey Baby!!!!!" At the top of her lungs. We're trying to break the habit before she moves out. *fingers crossed*

Just let him be baby New Year for Halloween! Surely he'll wear a diaper and a sash! Bless you!

When I was babysitting age I often took care of a neighbor boy who was about 6 or 7 and going through his naked stage. His favorite thing to do was to strip naked, then come into our house and play with the toys in the basement. We found him there nearly every day for a summer - stripped down playing with our legos.

At least your son is nude at home.

Been there. I used to make my oldest stay in her room if she was naked. She could be naked if she wanted to, but only in her room by herself. I had a lot of free time! But alas, that only works with the first one. When you have other kids, you can't really stay home all the time. Good luck!

The visual of Cameron in the kitchen "helping" you make dinner in just his socks is hil-ar-ious!

I bought the chicken costume from Old Navy several years ago for my daughter. I thought she'd love it! Sadly, the only memories we have of the costume are the photos I took when trying it on. She has tears streaming down her face and snot bubbling out of her nose. It's the best chicken photo I've ever seen!

Thanks for the laugh!

Hahaha! Oh, I feel your pain. My eldest DD wore only panties (and they were forced upon her) for the first four years of her life. She is much better now, 15 years later.

That is the costume I put my baby in last year for halloween. He was only 3 months old at the time so he couldn't fit to hard! :) This year it is going to be a lobster and his dad is going as a chef...why? Because my husband thinks it will be funny. Of course this is the same man who named our mini daschund after a german tank...he has a weird sense of humor!

I never went through a nudity phase, but my nephew sure has! My niece not so much, but that boy would be naked every minute of the day if we let him!
