Our failure to eliminate competing food sources.
Last night, my husband found this under Kellen's bed. Contrary to my initial assumption, a wild animal did not crawl under there and die. What you see so lovingly preserved in the form of my son's hitherto secret bone collection are the remains of our Memorial Day barbecue. We had ribs.

Totally GROSS! LOL!!!
Oh boy. Not good.
Secret Bone collection. Did he plan to glue them together to creat a dinosaur?
lol too funny!!!
Ha! Ha! Sounds just like something my boys would do.
My brother, who's 10 years younger that I, saved his easter candy for an entire 2 years when he was 12. He was convinced that he'd be famous if Hershey ever went bankrupt. LOL
when my aunt was little my Nana found a pot of water with macaroni noodles under her bed where she had tried to make them in her room. She also found an impressive stash of dirty dishes from my aunts days to do the dishes.
Oh no! I'm sorry, but that is too funny.
Uh oh....boys! I have a two year old...I will keep that in mind.
One word...eeeewwww...wait, is that a word?
When my son was younger, I noticed an awful odor coming from his room. I cleaned it from top to bottom, thinking the cat had pooped in there or something. Hidden under a mountain of toys in his closet was an egg, lovingly contained in a small plastic box surrounded by water (?) waiting to hatch. I have no idea how long it had been in there...
Oh, I liked the first solution MUCH better.
ewww! why, why, why??? kiddo's are interesting creatures!
I will have to remember to keep an eye on missing food when my boys get older!
reading your blog is like spending time with my grandkids ... keep up the good work on raising these *creative* beings! you rock!!! my daughter, who has a set of twins, three others and is expecting another in aug, lives like you!!! yea, i miss them and all their antics! thanks for the daily laugh; it must be your rs service project ... LOL LOL LOL ....
do you ever need stories on puking in the car on the way to the dealership to have it (the car, not the kid) fixed??? we got em!
I confess I just ate a 6 year old box of chocolates I had forgotten about, but that little collection grosses even me out!
Oh my gosh! LOL!
That looks like something my kids would do!!
That is gross....boys are weird, really, really weird.
Oh Gross! LOL
I also find it funny that the ad for your blog today is A1 sauce. So, if the bones under the bed story made you hanker for a rib or two, why not try them with A1 sauce!
That's hilarious but mostly I love that you took a picture of it!
Sadly, that looks like something my husband would do/has done... so gross.
boys are such a great adventure!
LOL!! That's how my brothers have always been, they're bedrooms smelled SO bad! It's all making sense now..
Gross! My teenage sister still does things like that, my poor parents. I do hope he grows out of this stage quickly.
LOL. You just never know when a spare bone will come in handy.
As a new parent, I am thankful for this warning. Sorry you had to pave the way for the rest of us, but I thank you!
p.s. I love love love your blog heading and your siggy! PRICELESS!
beyond, beyond awesome. No words.
Be sure to check for Easter eggs, especially the pretty ones next year.
Boys, what can we possibly do with them?
My 13-year-old stepson still does this type of thing . . . on a daily/nightly basis in fact.
We've already had a "bug problem" because of this . . . but if we get rodents . . . I'm gonna kick the boy's buttocks to the curb!!
I that is so FUNNY!!! I have boys too and this reminds me of something my oldest one would do!!
OMG! I just threw up in my mouth a bit. I am having flashbacks of the movie Girl, Interrupted and Brittany Murphy's character hiding chickens under her bed. Take care.

OMGOODNESS!!!!! That is nasty!!! Hurry stop your son is a hoarder! JK! We've been having a terible time with ants and the dog now has to jump up on the couch to get her food when she wants to eat. It's a shame! Good thing it's an old couch!
Yikes! Little boys can be so weird some times! Hope you can get rid of the mutant rats now. :)
I thought what my kid in target was gross - you win!!
Wow, I'm impressed that Kellen could eat 8 ribs!
Well I guess that figures out why the rodents did not want to check into the rodent hotel....they are getting fed too good!
Boys will be boys! If it isn't frogs and snakes in the pockets, it is private feedings for his pet mouse/mice! I guess it is time to talk to him about acceptable pets and un acceptable room mates! Good luck! I will be praying!
I can top that. When my son was about your twins' age we smelled an awful smell in his room and couldn't find the source for days. It was coming from the closet but we'd pulled everything out and couldn't find anything. Finally, I discovered it....he had peed in his ski boot one night when he was too lazy to walk all the way down the hall to the bathroom. When we confronted him, he laughed his head off.
LOL! That is hillarious! Just one question...did you make the bed before you took the picture, or does he always do such a good job?
That made me laugh for a long time! Thanks for writing this!
I wonder if he ever nibbled on them when he wanted a midnight snack???
i am not even sure what to say, except that i suddenly feel better about the crumbs on my floor
OMGosh, I'm still laughing! I can't stop!
You poor thing.
Love it, hate it, I'm running to my trash can to barf next. Ewwww. Thanks for sharing! Leaves a great visual image in my mind (and I'm checking under my bed tonight before going to sleep!!)
Oh, Jana...ugh! Never a dull moment!
My 9 year old would totally do this. He always asks if he can keep the bones. Pretty gross.
That's too funny! You must drive your husband and kids nuts..."Wait, wait, wait! Leave it there, I have to go get my camera." LOL! We love you Jana.
Blessings, Celene
We grilled rack of lamb for Father's Day, and I must admit that I found a similar stash under my bed. I'm pretty sure the collection belongs to one of the dogs and not to my hubby...but, I could be wrong.
When I was little I didn't want to eat my scrambled eggs - so I hid them in the back of the kitchen cupoards. My mom didn't find them till we moved, a couple of years later!!! It's amazing they didn't attract some rodents!
Thanks for sharing your life with us! I have passed along the "One Lovely Blog Award" to you for your awesomeness!
Have a beautiful Sunday!
oops - spelled cupboards wrong and forgot to tell you where you can find out more about the award!

Your son really knows how to clean the meat off the ribs....or is that courtesy of the rodents?
You could try using cut in half gumdrops (the big ones). They get their teeth stuck in the gumdrop and can't get out. SNAP!
