Many moons ago, before I had children and freely judged those who did, I vowed that no child of mine would own a portable electronic device until he/she entered high school. Exceptions would be made for children who won the National Spelling Bee or showed exceptional promise in an obscure sport such as archery or badminton.
"There is no reason why a seven-year-old needs an ipod," I have been quoted as saying more than once.
Experience has proven me wrong.
A trio of singing chipmunks will break anybody.

oh come on the kids and I blast chipmunks in the car all the time. No Ipod needed, of course I am a dork, that loves driving the hubby insane on road trips. LOL

Ha ha ha ha! YES! My daughter is stuck on 'Let's Get Together' from the original Parent Trap movie. Just that song. That song only. The English accents trying to be American and the 'Yeah Yeah Yeah's' that sound like 'Yeh Yeh Yeh' are going to break me. My daughter is only three. Help.
i have my kids singing from 'momma mia' and cole porter/frank sinarea music. i feel very good about myself!
So funny! Love your blog, it's like reading about my own life. :)
amen and hallelujiah. I've said the same thing and have completely changed my mind. It was the Wiggles for me. How many times does a woman have to listen to "hot potato" before she starts veering into a ditch or off a bridge? time will only tell.
Yep, that's what experiece does... It proves moms wrong.
I'm totally with you there! We went to see sesame street live and since then, the soundtrack from it has been all they want to listen to. sure the songs are cute but not for the 10th time...in one day! And if it's not that, it's "the wheels on the bus" or "Look at that "S" Car Go".

I vowed to never have a portable DVD player- then we moved from Phoenix to Orlando with two boys: ages 1 and 3.
They watched movies every second they were awake, and I arrived with all my hair still in my head.
Oh no, the Chipmunks in the car?! Kill me now, really. The movies are cutsie, but that's all I could take.
I think we all judged parents freely, until we had our own kids...I know I did. Things I swore I would never buy them, and shows I SWORE they would never watch. Moral of the story for me...never swear. :)
LOL. I said the same thing... then i got my son a mp3 player.. just a cheap one (cuz he's was only 5 or 6) cuz he will get one song stuck in his head... and thats all we listen too... now i have 2 kids... and the mp3 players missing... and we listen to 2 songs over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over... and over.

Who's driving as you took that picture? I am scared for all of Philly. :)
You are hilarious, I am really enjoying these posts. Can't wait to read more!
and just look at that sweet angel face sleeping next to her. that would make it all worth it to me
:-)
Isn't it funny how all the things you said in the past (before kids) just have a way of coming back to haunt you? :)
Haven't seen the chipmunks nor heard the soundtrack but kudos to your girl for following lyrics. Mine just makes up her own :/
Oh.MY.Word. I just laughed SO hard outloud! I just updated my Facebook status the other day about this VERY thing! I said that there was something about Beyonce via the Chippettes that might make a person smile...but I was pretty sure that the CD would be headed out the car window soon!! I am just about tired of it! Love your blog by the way...HILARIOUS.
too funny, my kids are all into the chipmunks too! hey, whatever happened to the post about paper underwear, it was linked in one of your other blog posts, but it said that it could not be found, I'm very curious and must read it!!!!
You are just hilarious!!!
Thankfully no Chipmunks here yet, and Yo Gabba Gabba is still listenable... for now. ;) We'll see what happens on our 3 day drive to Vancouver this summer!!!
Good for you for saving your sanity hahaha.

can i get an AMEN SISTA! as much as I hate the fact that we have a dvd player in the car it has saved my children's life many times -that is from me just ramming the car into the nearest tree or off a cliff some where.
I don't know what's worse, Chipmunks or the five thousandth playing of "Boom Boom Pow" by the Black Eyed Peas...
Ever since the Squeakual came out I have not heard the end of it..."When are we going to see it???" I think Dad is going to have to be in charge of that one.
just tuned into your blog, love it! I am a new mother and I've already said "no electronics" ... guess I'll keep an open mind! :)
You should ask for a list of things we said before WE knew what it was like having kids. It got even worse for me when we had our second birth--twins.
It seems to me that the simple solution to this problem would have been to just NOT BUY music that you know will eventually get on your nerves. I realize that I'm not a parent, but when I was little I NEVER listened to 'kids music'. I thought it was stupid.
I would always want to listen to Loreena McKennitt, which is what I was used to hearing, because it's what my mom would play.
The cheap MBT shoes they choose will need to fit the person's foot shape as well as their stride. For walkers, cheap MBT shoe is the best bet.
