Today included one of those magical afternoons where my boys had a baseball game at one place and my daughter had soccer practice at the same time in another.
We arrived at the baseball field 15 minutes before the opening pitch.
"I am amazing," I said as I patted myself on my back.
That was before Cortlen and Kellen opened up their baseball bags.
"There's nothing in here!" they cried in unison. That wasn't exactly true. One of the bags contained a cracked water bottle and several candy wrappers.
"Where are your baseball gloves and hats?" I shrieked. "And cups?"
Cortlen remembered that he put his baseball glove under the bathroom sink for safe keeping. Kellen had no idea what I was talking about.
"Am I supposed to be wearing cleats?" My daughter picked the perfect time to mention that she had forgotten her soccer shoes at home.
Thirty minutes later, we arrived back at the baseball field with 2 baseball gloves, 1 baseball cap, and 1 cup. The rest of the gear is officially AWOL.
We had to flip coins to see who got to wear the hat. The winner gloated and pranced onto the field. The loser told me that he was never speaking to me again.
My daughter interrupted the diatribe to make a confession. She was really sorry, but she left her soccer cleats on top of the dryer back at the house. While the rest of us were running around like crazy trying to find the missing sports gear, she was petting the cat.

oh how we live the same life : )
This makes me feel soooo much better!
I don't think that my kids are allowed to participate in any activity that includes any sort of gear. Piano lessons will be strictly from memory, and if they lose their fingers, there will be hell to pay.
I'm soooo not looking forward to when my kiddos will be involved in activities that require them to bring equipment!!
Today my daughter asked me if I had looked at the soccer schedule to see if any of her games and her brother's games were at the same time. I had just done that, so I answered in the affirmative. "Great," she grumped. "How are we going to share the cleats?" I guess I need to make another trip to WalMart.
Sandy
Buy some back up gear for your kids to keep in the back of your vehicle for emergencies. Just make sure the stuff for the boys is pink and sparkly, they might forget only once after that? And shoes for your daughter that say "boys rule"? Good luck--y
ou are awesome, and o' so funny!
My house is just about as chaotic. As for your daughter petting the cat rather than gathering her gear, she could have been doing something far worse. Dont believe me? Look here:

That makes me so glad my oldest boy is old enough to keep track of and grab his own stuff. The younger one- not so much. Thank goodness he only has soccer 2 months a year.
Oh, been there done that. Except it was my Hubby who forgot his soccer cleats. And the game was an HOUR away. I was not a happy camper.
This morning at the bus stop I was explaining the term "lallygagging" to my son. I'd say petting the cat would qualify.
Cheers!

Well, you know, the cat needs attention, too. LOL
I just leave it all in my SUV.
After 7 years of soccer we're done now...we've got cleats, socks, balls and gear...lots of it...I'll send it over and you can stash it all over in case your daughter can't find hers ;)
That is my life - only substitute theater for baseball and have 1 kid that needs to be at both at the same time. And that's the kid who is usually petting the dog... The other day we ended up at theater in cleats - which I told her to take off before she went on stage because they just replaced the stage floor and she left her other shoes at home - um guess who forgot to take off the cleats....
@Mom of 12 - we share cleats too! luckily they games are at 11:45 and 1:30. Won't be the same next year when they are on the same team again.
The only problem with leaving it all in the car is that it STINKS. I am too O.C.D. to let my kids make sure they have everything--I check backpacks and bags at least three times before we go anywhere! :(
Sounds like one of those days where you put up the white flag, load everyone back in the car and call it a day!
I know that this is unrelated to the current post but my 3 year old just saw the picture at the top of your blog and said "look mom, she uses the hay fork to pick up her boys!" we feed horses.
Hmmm, who is it that wants to play in these games?? Doesn't look like it is your kids.....
Wasn't today Friday the 13th? Blame it on Karma.
heh...this actually made me laugh, it reminds me of my mom with my two much younger sisters
At the risk of commenting twice...my seven and my 10-year-old have been sharing a pair of cleats. Not happy when I looked at the calendar and discovered that their games were at the same time this week. Should I flip a coin or head to WalMart for another pair?
Sandy
At least no one was naked were they?
This sort of thing is normal in world!
Hee, hee!! Your blog is the lightness I need to see the hilarity in the craziness of life. This sounds (and nearly all of your other posts) sound like they've come straight form a snap shot of my life. Thanks for making a nearly crazy mom of three seem a little bit more sane. :)
This is just helps me to not feel bad that my children do not participate in organized sports.
I love this one! That sounds like my family...so much on our minds, we get where we are going, but sometimes we are missing water bottles and even shoes! One day the kids will be all grown up and I will be wishing for missing shoes and forgotten water bottles again. Working on my Scentsy site, http://BlogWithMom.scentsy.us holds my mind at hostage sometimes ... LOL I need to get a notebook for the car to remind me where I am going and what I need to be packing!
omg this sounds like a normal occurence for me too. just call it a day after all of that!
