As one who has been through room mother hell and back (and field trip chaperone pergutory (sp?)) I am celebrating for you. Once you're name is on the list, they will NEVER forget you. Trust me, your time will come. Now, on party day, you can actually still love your children.
The one time I put my foot down about field trips was when they would be collecting "water samples from various local ponds and streams." Meaning the moms would be wading into the bodies of water and gathering samples of pond scum. Really.
That is when my poor children learned that their mother will NOT go to the ends of the earth to make them happy.
Cake always makes things better! Enjoy!
They have NO idea what they are missing out on! Jokes on them! ;)
you dodged a bullet - I have been a room parent for like three years running and I had to beg out this year(despite my friend harassing me to please do it yet again). You will be so glad. Just make that yummy cat poo cake for enrichment. You might lose that job as well!
so sad...I just got asked this morning to be the 3rd grade room mom..Sadly, my competition was pretty stiff. Nobody else volunteered.
We are all praying for you here in AZ. If anyone can make it through these trying times, it's you sista. And I love Camber I decided. She is so much like my little Olivia who turned 2 in June, but for some reason has demanded we have birthday cake and blow out birthday candles every day for the past 9 days. Camber probably gets its not her birthday, but Liv can't seem to figure out why in the world no one wants to celebrate her birth 10 times. I think the girls would get along.
Oh, such sad, sad news.
How did you manage to have cake leftover?!! No food fights, or cake snowballs?
I would be celebrating, not agonizing....those field trips with a bus load of screaming, germ spewing kids is enough to make my skin crawl...Enjoy the cake!
But...the fabulous kitty litter cake. Have these people no heart at all? It's not you I worry so much about, it's the children who miss out on your presence.
WON'T SOMEBODY PLEASE THINK OF THE CHILDREN?
I'm so sorry you didn't win the room mother lottery! Just write that big ol' check for those room moms that want to plan a Martha Stewart Harvest day party!
You can't seriously be upset about it. Are you, really? Or is this just an excuse to eat the rest of the cake you were saving to celebrate if you did get picked and had to come with another excuse? You evil genius, you.
It must have been the kitty litter cake!! Much too good for their taste buds.
Two years ago my daughter started a brand new school & of all the people who volunteered - several - they picked me.
As soon as I was notified I suddenly remembered that I absolutely hate calling strangers or asking for help. They were all strangers & they all hated me for being "the chosen one."
I'm glad I was able to spend time in the classroom, since I would have imagined they were beating my daughter otherwise, considering how much she begged not to go to school that year.
Otherwise, it was awful. Plus, I spent a fortune cause I couldn't make myself call strangers who didn't like me. I'm such a baby.
But it's so true that you would have been the BEST choice.
Thank you so much for your sympathy...and empathy. I am just now getting over my loss. I really have no choice but to move on; I ate all of my sons' leftover birthday cake.
They don't know what they passed up!
