Snow Day

Last week it looked like this in Philadelphia:

School was closed for two days. By 10am on day 1, my kids were acting like this:

So with their help I decided to make this:

Which turned out like this:

(baking soda is not an optional ingredient, I have learned)

And tasted like this:
While the delicious pumpkin bread was baking and I was giving Cameron a bath, my three older kids found the box of scissors that I had put on top of the refrigerator...

And a red marker.
I called my husband at work and told him that his presence was requested. Immediately.

He came home from work at lunch and he and the kids spent the rest of the afternoon doing doughnuts in our cul-de-sac with his truck.

Everyone was happy, except for my elderly neighbor, who watched in horror (hand over mouth) through her front window.

Ha Ha! That is funny about your neighbor! Hope you have a great week!

That's awesome. And your playroom looks rockin'! My husband's a big fan of snow donuts himself, and I have to admit I'm the old lady neighbor, but in this case your husband's a superhero. :)

Good Ole' Hubby to the rescue!! Hope you were able to enjoy a silent afternoon (at least until the neighborhood phone calls started pouring in!) LOL

My husband would have tried hooking up sleds to the back of the truck!! (actually.. he's done that, just not with the kids!)

How they ALWAYS manage to find scissors and/or markers is beyond me. Not to mention how they can get them out of the bucket on the top shelf of the pantry that I need a stool to reach. I think there must be homing devices of some sort planted in them so that when anyone under the age of 8 gets within 10 feet, scissors & markers automatically put themselves in reach. I love your blog!

We NEVER get snow days. Have you heard Jeff Foxworthy say that you know you're from Utah if you drive 75 on the freeway in a white out snow storm? The school bus does that here! Not that I'm complaining...the kids really NEED their education! (Sarcasm...)

I think I would've taken the truck out for a spin or 6 and left him with the kids and the scissors! He gets major points for coming to the rescue...

Awesome post. Your days amaze me. I love your awesome attitude.

When my kids-over-shoulder saw the name of your blog they declared anyone called "Meanest Mom" would defintitely be a fav.

Them's smart kids.

I have finally hidden our scissors in a cupboard on the top shelf behind some boxes. I'm glad your hubby came to your rescue! Go Dad!

LOL...don't you just LOVE those days. The snow you showed that school was cancelled...well in SD (specifically the town I live in) it needs to be short of about 5 or 6 feet before they will even consider calling school off :(
That was not fun when I was in school but I appreciate it now that I have my own!

Sounds like the "best day eeeeevvverr!"

Way to go dad! Lucky that he is able to get away like that. Who know what else might have happened that day? I love the neighbors reaction. As always I love reading your blog!

Sounds like MY snow day last week, minus the manure bread.

Love it!

Now that's what I call a real snow day. They cancelled school for us in the desert on account of 1/4 of an inch. We spent the afternoon making mud baby snowmen.

Oh, thanks for the great laugh this morning. Dont' you just love it when your little angels turn into ferocious wolves? Oh, life just doesn't get better than this!

LOL @ the neighbor... that bread looks um... tasty haha

I did the bread thing last month. It's amazing how easy it is to skip an ingredient when you have little hands helping! It's also amazing how darn heavy my banana bread was without the baking powder. Really. Amazing.

Yay for your husband! It sounds like he saved the day well except for freaking out your neighbor. Sounds like a fun day even with all the mishaps :)

I am in mortal dread of the next time my daughter gets ahold of scissors...the last two times her hair suffered immensely and I can't take it a third time. At least you tried to brave the oven and attempted to give your beasts a treat. I think I'd have locked them in their respective rooms for the day. ;P Hooray for donuts!

LOL, love the use of red marker.

Too funny! Fantastic recap of your day!

Teehee!! I simply love this blog...I laughed so hard at most of the posts I went back to your archive for rest! Kudos to the hubby for coming to the rescue!

Do they still make "Smelly" markers???

What crazy person thought those up anyway!?!

That's so funny about your neighbor!!!! My husband does the donut thing as well. And sadly, I react like your neighbor!

I see you found your camera! I never noticed how sharp your childrens teeth are! Who did they inherit them from? Lol! I guess you will no longer need a part-time job, it's going to take you plenty of time to clean up all that fun....for about the same amount of pay! :)

Don't you just loooove snow days? The kids want them, the parents fear them.

You should have just sent them over to her house for a little while. Then she wouldn't care what ya'll did with them!!!:)

Props to your husband. Good man.

Picturing your elderly neighbor had me laughing out loud!

What I wouldn't give for a really good zoomed in picture of your neighbor! ;)

I love when daddy's come to the rescue....

and is it a bad thing to consider cages for such wild little beasts???

Thanks for making me smile - I really needed it.

Hey, your house/playroom looks just like mine! Yesterday my daughter decided to make a craft with feathers and the next thing you know it looked like I had butchered twenty chickens in my living room. Feathers. Feathers!!!

Love your blog BTW.

what a terrible day that was. I didn't want to leave the house. Danielle has managed to hide a pen in her bedroom somewhere- I can't find it.

My daughter painted her toenails with a purple marker. Now she has cadaver feet. Was your daughter's red one at least washable?

Your blog is so funny. I have chuckled and giggled and this is good, very good. I will keep checking back. Keep blogging. You have a gift. :-) Blessings from Canada, where this winter we had about 3 feet of snow..BC CANADA on the coast to be exact. Imagine...it only happens about every 20 years

Wheelies are awesome... especially in the snow.

Although I would totally have been the neighbor watching with her hand over her mouth. That's me right there.

I love the red marker photo. Lipstick is great, marker is even better.

What a fun, crazy day for all! I randomly came across your blog and I love it. Although I am not a mom yet, I am a teacher and former nanny so I can appreciate being the "mean one"!!! ;) It's absolutely possible to be the mean one and still have a blast with kiddos :D

A pic is worth a 1,000 words and it was all perfect. I laughed so hard, I cried.

Could relate all too well, except hubby could never come to the rescue. How fun for you!

They closed school for that? We've had twice that much snow, and I've never had school closed here (Utah). One snowy day the bus driver refused to go on the route, as I learned after driving the kids to school when the bus failed to show up.

How do they always find stuff? I now keep my makeup locked in a cash box, and my 4-year-old still managed to find a sample lipstick and smear it everywhere.
