Off the Wagon

Yesterday, my kids fell off the wagon so to speak. Specifically, they went a whole four days--a family record--without indulging in their favorite vice. Ultimately, however, the temptation grew too strong for even the most self-disciplined to bear.

"Turn me on for just one minute," it begged whenever they passed by. "Maybe two."

"The driveway is thirsty," it pleaded a little louder after the initial invitations were ignored. "Give it just a little drink."

Over time, the commands grew more forceful and the consequences for disobeying more severe.

"Take all of your mom's Tupperware containers out of the kitchen and fill them up. Then dump them out. Then fill them up again.... If you don't, I won't be your friend."

I was making dinner last night when I heard my favorite combination of things: running water and dead silence.

When I went opened the front door to investigate, I found a roving typhoon.

"Watch out!" yelled Camber as she ran past me. The warning came just as I was hit in the face by a gush of water. Several gallons, or so it seemed, pushed past me, flooding the foyer floor.

"Oops," said Kellen. "That wasn't supposed to hit you," he explained.

I'll leave the rest of this story to your imagination.

LOLOLOL! I'm picturing three kids cleaning foyer floors? Some howling going on about it not being faaaaiiiirrrr????!!! Or perhaps you taking the hose and dousing them right back but good? I think your imagination may be better than mine as you've been at this mean mom thing longer... you really are my inspiration! :)

LOLOL!!!!!!!! My hose seems to be from the same family as yours. It beckons the kids until they can't resist, and then everything is washed away!

I'm good so long as there's no mud, which my children think is the point of having water outdoors.

I love reading this ol' blog and god knows I understand but that shiz is PRECIOUS. We're in stage 4 Water restrictions here in Oz, most towns , most states, no pools, no carwashing and we live off what the rain brings AND THAT"S IT. So this post brings a bit'o OUCH. OUCH

That is my kids to a "T." The ONE outside rule we have, is to not touch the garden hose--and what is the ONE thing they always do...

Ahh the memories this brings back!

Wow! That's awesome! I'm so glad mine aren't the only ones obsessed with water. But mine prefer making their own swimming pools in the back yard. That's what shovels are for, right?

Nooo, my imagination couldn't begin to see what really happened in this situation!

Would a screaming mother be part of the picture?

This is funny b/c tonight my 4 yr old pushed his 1 yr old (who was sitting in his walker minding his own business) out into the middle of the lawn & about 6 inches away from a sprinkler....then he proceeded to turn that sprinkler on to fully blast. Mom was soaked, baby was dripping...I think you get the idea!

Hi! I was gonna comment on the cupcake post (the comments were disabled), so, I'm putting my comment on this post for the cupcake post. :)

Yum! The cupcakes look awesome! Also, cute posts and all, but eh...what's with all of the devilish stuff all over your blog?? It just seems kinda...well...not your typical kind of blog design. But, there probably is a story behind it all, so I won't judge you unfairy. :0)

Quiet is never a good sign! The sound of water and silence even worse! It sounds like they had a great time, though-plus you got clean floors!

When my boys say,"You're so mean," I respond, "I can be meaner." That takes the air out of their sails!

I loved the cupcakes! Competition can be so much fun:)
