We Rock

There have been a lot of nights lately when I've put my kids to bed and asked myself, "What did I do today?"

I need days like today, when I boycotted housework and every other daily chore, to remind myself that the question that every woman should be asking herself at the end of the day is "What didn't I do today?"

In case you didn't know, girls rock.

Yes we do rock! I couldn't agree more. What don't we do during the day? Boycotting these things also works great for husbands who ask otherwise.

i could have probably done more today, but i went to the dump, the bank, the library, and the grocery store. i also pulled weeds, cleaned the outside of all the kitchen cabinet doors and drawers, reorganized the laundry room, cooked dinner, bathed the kiddo, and...wow, i'm getting tired writing all this. i need a break. we do rock! take care.

You are totally right! Every once in a while my kids need days like that so they remember that they are the reason I do all the other stuff. It's nice to just have fun every once in a while. They'll only be young once.

I thought I worked pretty hard today, until I read Kiki's list. Guess I'm just lazy.

We absolutely do rock!! Without moms to clean up the messes where would we be??

I know it sounds totally mundane, but I think the Earth might stop revolving if we stopped doing all the stuff we do every day. And yes, I do give myself credit for running a load of laundry, wiping the kitchen table, putting things away. Some days I tell my kids in great detail what I did all day, so they know we don't have a staff of magic genii at our house.

Huh. (scratches head) I just can't figure out how you got into my house and took that picture. ??? Seriously, it's my counter, right down to the containers of baby food WITH the spoon still in it.

And yeah, girls totally rock.

What happens when your counter looks worse than that and you still haven't accomplished anything?

i love that picture! it makes me feel so good to know that somewhere out there, someone else's countertop looks just like mine!!!

Doesn't it just wear you down when the counters are full and the dishwasher is full of clean dishes. I hate full clean dishwashers!!!

You're totally right--it's "didn't do" not "did" for sure! It's amazing all we get done in a day! And my counter looks almost exactly like that right now! ;)

There was a night in the not too distant past where my 9 year old looked me right in the eyes after I told him to put a new trash bag in the trash can and said, "What do you do around here? I do everything." Lord Have Mercy! I couldn't believe those words actually came out of his mouth. I told him for the rest of the week he could find out what I did because he was on his own. When he tried to put his dirty dishes in the dishwasher, he quickly learned that was MINE. LOL. We do rock!!!

Oh, I agree. And with Feefifoto too. I like to list everything I've done to anybody who makes the mistake of crossing my path during the day. Cause otherwise - it never happenend. Thats' the problem wit6h housework. It's invisible until you don't do it.

I guess we'll just have to be supportive of each other's invisible achievements.

Ladies. you are the greatest!

It really doesn't matter how much we do, there will always be something left undone, then, we'll look at the undone chore and say, "what DID I do today?" We do rock and we need to take credit for every little thing we do!

It's nice to see that someone who seems to have it all together and is as amazing as you has a counter that looks like mine!

My kids remind me that no matter how hard you work in a day there will still be more at the end, as in: washing/drying/putting away 6 loads of laundry/towels/sheets etc. will still leave you with a full hamper at bath time and bedtime. I love the days where I work super hard and yet only I can tell what all I've done, and then the days where I do nothing and no one even notices. Boycotting in this house is worthless with 5 guys. I recently was sick and skipped the bathroom for almost 2 weeks and the ony one who was grossed out was me. Not one commented or offered to help.

My kitchen counter looks just like yours does right now and I may leave until tomorrow morning.

AGREED, Mogantosh! No one notices a chore done, but one will sure notice one not done!!

I try my darndest to keep this house up with 5 kids in it. Unfortunately, things I WANT to do go by the wayside... Thank goodness school starts next week ;)

I was just discussing this very same thing on Monday with some friends. Some of the hubbys ask what do we do all day. We all decided to not do anything one day, so they can see what we do all day.

Right on, Mama M!

My kitchen counters look like that or worse on a daily basis... regardless of what else I've done that day... some days I care more than others. Thanks for sharing your pic!

HA - someone else has a kitchen that looks like mine. But I did do one thing yesterday - when I realized there wasn't a single kid cup in the kitchen, dirty or clean, I made the twins retrieve them from inside the house and out.

I'm SO gonna try this! I thought I wouldn't do housework today, but have fallen into the trap of laundry and picking up. Maybe next week...when my hubby's away and I can clean at day's end at a bottle of wine's pace...=)

It feels like I have those days all the time when I'm actually busy all day. I have Moms' Night Out with my friends so my husband does get a taste of what it's like. He couldn't manage to get the dishwasher unloaded and commented to me when I returned (and was mobbed like I'd been gone for 3 days), "I don't know how you ever get a single thing done in a day"

amen sista!
apparently I do such a fantastic job that my husband is delusional enough to think all we do, all day is sit around watching movies and eating bon bons.
never mind, while he's home on the weekends he's driven mad by the incessant nagging, and whining to go some where, or to play with this special game, or to have such and such for a snack... never mind the 3 loads of laundry I "get" to do and put away, ALL the cleaning through out the kitchen, living room, bath room, my room, the office and the girls room that constantly look like a bomb exploded in it. then of course dishes and the yard work that needs to be done.
so when I go to the dentist i think to myself while lying back in a chair, having multiple hands and instruments stuffed in my mouth that this is as close to a "vacation" from my family as it's gonna get.
we do rock.

I DIDN'T cook dinner, and I don't care that Dad fed them fluffernutters.
I DID help brush teeth and read stories. I DID kiss everyone goodnight and tell them I love them, and did it again after they got up and went potty.
I like days when what I DID do was the good stuff and not the stuff I hate.
Some days it really rocks to be a mom!

Today is the first day in a week that I've been able to read your blog because I've been rockin' myself to death! My DH made a comment today over the phone that has had me stewing, um, waiting all day for him to get home so that I can show him just how MUCH I rock! Thanks for the reminder to cut the guilt and count the accomplishments, no matter how small!

But why is it that on the days I boycott cleaning to attend to my zillion other to-dos my neighbor or Relief Society president decides to drop in and visit????

(Note that, with 5 kids, it only takes 2 hours of me not cleaning to make the house look like it hasn't been cleaned in months.)
