The Case of the Missing Stamps

We have been tearing through postage stamps as of late, even though we mail very few letters.

"I think I'm losing my mind," I've told my husband on at least three separate occasions over the past month. "I could have sworn that there was a sheet of stamps in this drawer, but now there is not."

The case of the missing stamps was solved this afternoon when I caught Cortlen stuffing several pieces of paper into our apartment complex's outgoing mail slot.

I snatched the last two papers before they were gone forever.

"I've been mailing letters to Grandma and Grandpa and Optimus Prime," he explained.

He was stunned when I explained that in addition to stamps, letters require envelopes and address labels.

Me: "How often do you mail letters?"
Cortlen: "Almost every day."
Me: "Approximately how many stamps do you put on each of your letters?"
Cortlen: "It depends, but usually 4 or 5."

I'm not so good at math, but I think that will pretty much do it.

Too funny. My 2 year old also found the stamps and thought they were stickers. Very expensive toddler art.

But how precious that he's sending mail to the grandparents!

Once I borrowed a picture from the library at church and found it later at home, covered in postage stamp "stickers"! Kids! Ya gotta love em!

That's awesome - 'Grandma and Grandpa and Optimus Prime.' Love it!

Wow. All I could think of was my three year-old when I read that. I can just imagine being in that exact situation. Talon would definitely mail letters to Optimus Prime. And Grandma and Grandpa, of course.

Very cute! I have a similar memory of stamps - aka stickers - gone missing.

A year ago I found my daughter's shoes and stuffed animals covered in about 40 dollars worth of stamps. I considered having a giveaway on my blog. . .

I will admit that I have been off my game when reading your blog. I am up to date and this one just made me giddy. Thank you for writing your blog. It always makes me smile!

Awww, I bet Optimus Prime loves having a pen pal.

Hahaha! So funny. At least he knew they were stamps and not just fun stickers!

That is adorable! My 4 year old does the same but they don't make it to the mailbox. Despite my lecture on how stamps are like money, she just thinks they are stickers. It's a shame Optimus Prime won't be receiving his fan mail.

My two year old thinks they are bell stickers. I do not think that is as cute as she does. I didn't bother to count how many she stuck down.

ha,ha... It only gets worse. When my older daughter was 17 I made her write some thank you notes. I left out the stamps and address book for her. Later in the day the postal worker knocked on my door and handed me a stack of envelopes. My daughter had addressed them with names only, no address, had not put any stamps on them, but had put them in the mailbox to go out. Again, she was SEVENTEEN years old!!

That is some how the most annoying and the cutest thing ever. I am sure Grandma and Grandpa will be thrilled to hear that they rank with Optimus Prime!

my four-year-old sister was shocked to find out that stamps had a purpose, and she couldnt just use them for whatever she pleased. hilarious!

My 4 year old recently mistook an ENTIRE roll of stamps for a sheet of stickers and had a grand time creating a very EXPENSIVE piece of artwork:-)
