Ancestors

A lot of people have advised me to learn about my ancestors. They claim that researching my family tree will help me learn where I come from and will give me clues as to what I am going to look like when I get older.

I am against family history for the same reasons.

Yea, at least yours didn't have hips that stuck out a good two feet on either side of their waist, and lucky me, after my last baby I inherited them too. Stupid genetics.

lauged out loud. So true. Whenever I feel pressured to learn too much about my ancestors, I try to think of that whole "There is a season for all things" bit, and gently remind my encouragers that I'm kind of busy working with the living right now.

What was it about people back then? And what will our great great.....grandchildren say about pictures of us?

They look...um, happy? Well, I think you'll be just as lovely as you get older.

One of my ancestors had such light blue eyes that they looked almost white in pictures and when I was younger I told my cousin it was because he had gone insane. Yeah, I'm nice.

Tell me about it! And I'm the ward family history consultant. It's ok, to prune your tree from time to time.

I have to confess that the hot mama on today's post isn't my real ancestor. My grandma--who crossed the plains in the dead of winter three times in her bare feet--said she would never speak to me again if I put a picture up of one of the many 19th-century babes from our family line. You'll just have to trust me when I say that hotness is hereditary.

Not only do pictures of my ancestors look "stunning" they had fabulous names like: Erma, Effie, Beatrice, Lola, Fern, Elsie--and that's just the women! I could go on but I won't! :)

If it's any help, they had to hold perfectly still for the camera. No stopping action there! Have you ever tried holding a perfectly still smile for 5 minutes? I won't even mention a perfectly still toddler! ;-)

Is she unbuttoning her shirt? That must be like old-school porn. Do I need to flag this blog for adult content?
So I'm thinking it explains the 'Paper Underpants' escapade. They were right about learning where you come from.

Lol! Well it actually DID benefit me to learn about MY ancestors! In my old life I was a shister, (ahem, not NOW of course....) but I was elated to find that my great grandpa kidnapped my grandma and Brigham Young and a posse chased him into Idaho and told him never to come back. Which he did eventually, and all ended well. That wasn't the ONLY thing I learned, but my mom would KILL me if I put it in print for all three hundred and some odd followers you have to read! So, I found that it isn't MY fault I'm a shister, it's my great grandma ZILLAH's!!!! :)

LOL! Brilliant! Ya know, when you see all of those ancient photographs with the grumpy women, you gotta wonder why evolution didn't knock out smiling, happy people! Maybe we were saved because of arranged marriages and matchmakers.. haha
