When was the last time you bought a dress that you didn't have to pair with a sweater that costs twice as much as the dress itself, a special bra, or weird looking undershirt?
Maybe it's just me, but it seems that stylish dresses that fit real women's bodies are going the way of the dinosaurs. Around these parts, they're virtually extinct. In their place, the timelessly sexy skirt + sweater set has taken over.
While I'm a girl who appreciates the flexibility of mix n' match clothing, there are occasions when I feel inspired to branch out from the world of adjustable waistbands. In these moments, I turn to Shabby Apple.
The ladies at Shabby Apple were kind enough to send me the Jackie O dress to try on for size.
Here are my thoughts uncensored:
* I'm relatively tall and the vast majority of so-called knee-length dresses sold in the mall hit me mid-thigh at best. Don't get me wrong, like most middle-aged women, I look smokin' hot in skin tight mini-skirts, but I am finding that a growing number of people consider those who dress less than half their age to be socially inappropriate. The Jackie O dress hits, as promised, perfectly at the knee.
* Most of Shabby Apple's dresses, including the Jackie O, "fit generously." Translation: If you fluctuate between clothing sizes depending on what's in your freezer, you'll most likely be okay with the size you order.
* Shabby Apple's summer line offers full coverage, but the cotton/spandex blend makes the dresses breathable and light. In other words, you won't sweat to death when you wear a Shabby Apple dress, even on the East Coast, where the humidity can knock your socks off.
Shabby Apple's BRAND NEW line of dresses is due out any minute and to celebrate, they're giving one lucky reader her very own Jackie O Dress!!!! All you need to do to enter this contest is to leave a comment. Want a second chance to win this dress? Post a link to this giveaway on your blog and leave a second comment!
It's that easy, and that awesome! The contest starts NOW and ends this FRIDAY, July 31 at midnight. The winner will be chosen at random, but comments expressing desperation are always appreciated and make me laugh.
Good Luck!

«Oldest ‹Older 801 – 916 of 916I so need this dress! I need something to wear that I didn't buy at the local Wal-Mart.
Your blog is hysterical! Dress is fabulous. The current wardrobe situation is lacking in fabulousity. Please count me in!
Oh...something that would flatter a tall girl! Sign me up! LOL!
Thanks for the chance!
oh, i've been eyeing that dress a long time!
I'm going to that site now...my sister is getting married this fall and I have lots of showers to attend. I hate how I have to dress so matronly since I had twin boys that messed up my figure. This dress looks great!
Enter me, please.
811 comments, I don't even know why I enter. Must have something to do with my desperate desire for a new dress. . .
So glad that I saw this before the deadline!!! I am too cheap to actually buy myself a new church dress (plus I have been promising myself a shopping trip over the last six months when I finally lose ten lbs. Obviously that hasn't happened).
I have no idea if they have my size, but what the heck! :-D
i have been eye-ing this dress on their website...
I LOVE Shabby APPLE I REALLY NEED This!

Dress me up!

(Heavenly Father if you love me I will win the dress...
I'M KIDDING. but it would boost the old confidence level a bit if I did win it! :P)
I just lost 34 lbs and none of my clothes fit me anymore. As fond as I am of drowning in my oversized outfits, I'd grovel, beg, and plead for a new Shabby Apple get-up.
Great giveaway.!! I would love to win a beautiful dress.
OMG so many entries. I'd love this dress because I have some serious job interviews coming up. Thanks for the chance.

so cute love their stuff!
what a beautiful dress!
I need a dress that will prevent my third graders from staring down my dress!
I need a Get A Man dress...
I love that dress! Who couldn't use another little black dress? Mabey it will do better at masking my baby belly than my current one!
I would love a new dress! :0)
I used to have this suit, that my aunt bought on her honeymoon and gave to me, and the family referred to it as my Jakie O. suit. I wore it to my high school graduation. Then inexplicably the skirt disappeared. So after five years of hoping, I donated the top. I really need this Jackie O. dress. It will fill that void in my closet.
Hope that Jackie O dress will fit me after the baby is born.
pick me...PLEASE!!!!
I'm a mom with 4 kids. Do you know when the last time that I got a new dress was? Please pick me!
I love Shabby Apple! I want ALL their dresses!
14 years later, I still have that stupid long straight "sand" colored gap mission skirt. Give me a reason to throw it out!
I hope I win!
I would really like to remember what a dress is....
I am too fat to fit it...but perhaps I could give it as a gift?!?
I LOVE the dresses on that site but I've never ordered. Kinda scares me to order things I haven't tried on....but I'm always up for a challenge!
I'm a way poor college student, in desperate need of new clothes. I would absolutely LOVE to win this dress!
Love, love their dresses! This is one of my favorites too.
me me me. please and thank you.
I'd be so happy too!
I love the meanest Mom and I love shabby apple!
I NEED this dress. I have been wanting it for months! Please pick me!
I have the same problem as you. Everything that is "knee length" hits me about mid-thigh. I need this dress. I'm tired of being the "mom" in the mix and match skirt and twin set outfit. Please make me chic again.
Oh how I could use a new dress. Although it might look a little out of place in my closet next to the newest dress that I bought for my 10 year old son's blessing...
i'm pretty sure i deserve this... yeah... yeah i do. :) haha
OH MEMEMEMEMEMEME! Please?

So, I'm just going to echo everyone else's comments, but I would love a new dress--and so would my husband (not for him to wear, but so I look decent again--been spending the money on clothes for the kids!).
Pick me! Pick me! The only time I wear a dress is to church on holidays. I could use a new cute one. Thanks for entering me.
I SOOOOOOO need a new dress. And one that doesn't allow for easy access breatfeeding. I need one that will make look like the women I know I am!
Thanks for having the giveaway. All the "dresses" that I have either have no sleeves or long sleeves. Its so frustrating that short sleeve dresses seem nonexistent. I would LOVE this dress.
Please pick me! If I'm lucky enough to win this dress, I may be lucky in a job interview when I wear and it land a great new gig! Thanks!
I can't remember is I already entered to many names to go through but thought Id try again, just in case..need a shabby apple dress desperately
I'm 29 weeks pregnant, and can't fit is a lot of my dresses anymore :( My OB told me at my last appointment that this was an exciting point in my life....everyday I know that I will be smaller today than I will be tomorrow. I don't see the upside to this.
I need this dress because all I seem to buy is for my girls. I go out to find something for me but it never looks as cute on me as the cute little girls dresses will look on my 4 and 6 y/o. It is not fair that dresses are made for little girls. This Shabby Apple dress looks sooo cute. I need this dress.
Totally love these dresses. Never knew they were around. Totally are my style. A new dress is always a hard thing to get just right.
love love love this dress... and that it is nursing-friendly {which I desperately need!}... they are so hard to find! it will be heavenly to wear once baby #2 enters the world in october... when i am once again thrust into the world of post-baby non-maternity clothing alternatives. love your blog.
I hope I win! Pick me! I have always wanted to try one of their dresses. My husband would flip out if I was in that Jackie O. My "church" wardrobe is hopelessly outdated.
Yes! Do want! I hate having to layer everything in order to stay modest. And there are so few dresses that are nursing friendly! I would die if I won something like this. And if I had any kind of disposable income I would be all over almost everything in the Shabby Apple store. Gah!
let it be me... please! please! please!
PLEASE pick me!!! I am in desperate need of something that doesn't make me look like a SAHM... case in point my V neck tee shirts and jean capris!! I think my husband is ready to burn them all!!!
I'd feel pretty-oh so pretty!
Love dresses. Love Shabby Apple.
This is my second comment because I linked your giveaway to my blog! Thanks for the fun!
I love your blog. I may as well try for the prized Shabby Apple dress.
Nonna2trips
Yes, please!

The last time I wore an actual dress was at my husband's graduation party. That was 2 kids ago.... Desperate? Definitely.
i want one like this so bad! Thanks!
yes please!!
My post children body is a mess.
The answer – a Shabby Apple dress.
My current fashion style is a NO,
But I can’t go wrong with Jackie O.
I love your blog and your sponsors, too...
Help a mom out with this fashion DO!
How absolutely darling these are! Must have one.
Oh my gosh...PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE! I am going to Boston in a few weeks with my husband and without to his first post-graduate conference, and I WAS LOOKING AT THIS VERY DRESS! I've been married to a student for 10 years, and this trip is my reward. If I win this dress, I will not only look great for all the hoity-toities in Boston, but I will also name my next child after you. Well, maybe my next goldfish.
Enter me please!
I've been wearing the same black skirt to church for the past two years...
How sad an existence to be MISSING MATERNITY CLOTHES & the options they afforded me.
Oh, I need that dress! I only own 3 dresses right now and those were bought under duress when my husband forced me to go shopping. See, I had our first child 3 months ago and the only clothes that fit up until recently had the word "maternity" somewhere on the label. He finally threw away my favorite sequin shirt with a big stork on the front of it. He said it was kind of strange to be wearing a stork shirt if you're carrying an infant in your arms and not in your belly! We're going on vacation in a few weeks and I'd love to have something snazzy to wear out to dinner!
Pick me! I'd give my first born to have a pretty dress that fit me well. Wait...make that my third born....he just flooded the bathroom.
I must have a new dress!
Once again here I am submitting my name for a chance to win. I don't know why I keep trying because I never seem to win. Since I am the 885th comment I am sure my chances are fantastic this time...
Still I will keep my fingers crossed!!
ooooohh!!! Pick me pretty please!! I am 6'1", so I have trouble finding socially appropriate dresses too!!
The only thing I have available to wear to a conference next month is, I think, my daughter's. And it has a hippo on the front. Crossing my fingers!
love it!!! what a great find!
One in 900 aren't the greatest odds, but they're better than 0 odds of winning if I don't even enter, so here goes.
Haven't had a new dress in ages. You don't want to see what I have been wearing to church!
Oh. I. Want. I'm tall too, and knee length is more like mid-thigh. I've been wanting to try Shabby Apple for such a long time.
Ordering clothes off the internet is a scary thing to this middle age mom. no. I am not really fearful of internet identity fraud, rather I cringe at the sizing dilemma. Let's see what happens...
love it!
Really, could Karma finally be on my side? Please, oh please!
My husband, daughter, and I are just recently returned from living in Kazakhstan. I have spent the last 10 months dressing in clothes way too similar to the picture you posted because 1-I was 3 months postpartum (read: awkward, though relatively small, mass around the middle) and 2-The only things we brought were what would fit in our 5 pieces of checked luggage.
Although I have yet to see any of the dresses I was wearing two years ago, I'm pretty sure they either won't fit the same, or will be sLightLY out of style. Please, HELP a sista out! =)
Fate? Kismet? I have been searching for a new little black dress, and here you have the perfect one! And if that's not enough, the model on Shabby Apple's site looks just like me....the pre-two kids, less 15 post-baby pounds, after a good night's sleep me. No kidding. My husband and friends are amazed. Now all I need is the dress. Please?
How cool is this!?!
I'm poor, newly married, and need some major retail therapy. Love shabby apple too.
me too
Crap! I'm so late! I want it, please! I'm poor, have bad fashion sense, and need a dress for a wedding next month.
PLEASE!!!
I'm kind of in love with this dress. A whole lot.
It's hot... really, really hot...
Sure! I'll take it!
I want to look like Jackie 0., too.
I love dresses, but always seem to have a hard time finding anything that doesn't remind me of my grandma or my eleven year old sister. These are darling! I would love to add one to my very very small dress collection!
I also posted a link to my blog. Pick Me Please!
My first teaching job starts Monday and I'd love a new stylish dress for it! :D Yayfun!
Just awesome! As delightful as your blog!
That looks very cool
I've got my eye on a couple of darling dresses! (fingers crossed!)
wow look at all these comments. I am dreaming of shabby apple...
These dresses are awesome! I really hope I win. :-)
Sign me up! Thanks.
Please pick me!! I would love to have a pretty dress to go out of my house with confidence for a change. please, please, please.
Sign me up! Love our Blog!
Fabulous! Love it, want it, need it!
Oh Dear Lord, please let me win this dress so that I may not look like a street walker anymore.... I need to get a dress that will contain my heaving bosom (Hi - two small children who nursed 24 hours a day!) and childbearing hips.
A good dress is hard to find. I am hoping this one finds me!
Um, midnight Eastern or Pacific? I love dresses, and think it might be a nice change from my regular uniform of twice mended yoga pants and stained t-shirt. Thanks!
The simple life, the simple style, the simple ways that a dress would flatter. It makes me wonder how graceful I'd feel wearing a dress that was quite the upscale matter. As you can see my rhyming skills are not what will get me this dress, it is the effortless fact that it will compliment my smiling face as I wear it with great glamour!
This is just the pick me up I'm in need of! Please pick me!
